| TSE in Animal and Human Health The Center for Food and Nutrition Policy is pleased to announce that the proceedings from its Ceres® Forum Transmissible Spongiform Encephalopathies in Animal and Human Health: The Science and the Policy are available. The two-day conference was held on March 8-9, 2004, and featured many distinguished speakers who discussed the science of TSEs that include bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE or mad cow disease) and chronic wasting disease. Policy issues, including trade issues, as well as the science behind prions and other emerging science were covered over the two-day event. The Center gratefully acknowledges the sponsors for the conference that included: University of Maryland/FDA Joint Institute for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition; FDA Center for Veterinary Medicine; FDA Center for Devices and Radiological Health; the law firm of Covington & Burling; and the USDA Cooperative State Research, Education and Extension Service.
