Breaking the EU-US Deadlock

Proceedings of a Ceres® Roundtable on Breaking the EU-US Deadlock on Foods Derived from Modern Biotechnology: A Global Perspective

On November 4, 2002, the Center for Food and Nutrition Policy convened a Ceres® Roundtable entitled Breaking the EU-U.S. Deadlock on Foods Derived from Modern Biotechnology: A Global Perspective. The objectives of the roundtable were to:

  1. Identify the key issues affecting global trade in foods derived from modern biotechnology;
  2. Discuss the global impact of differing U.S.-European Union (EU) political, regulatory, and scientific views and institutions;
  3. Identify ways to reduce trade barriers and;
  4. Develop alternative strategies for breaking the deadlock.
